Is Minimalism For Me?
Minimalism is growing. That's an irony if ever I heard one.
I'm not a hardcore minimalist but I have adopted a few of
the principles that are described as minimalism and I am experiencing the
benefits...
So. In the hectic world of nonsense and hurry, perhaps give
yourself a moment to read some of the benefits of minimalism and how it may
help you to have more clarity in your environment which reflects onto your
clarity of mind.
AMAZING OUTCOME ONE: Minimalism reduces your choices. In
today's world we are swamped with a million decisions, sometimes not knowing
whether we are choosing the right thing or having anxiety of the choice we have
taken. Minimalism focuses on keeping items that you use regularly, are
practical to your needs and/or you enjoy possessing. Therefore, if you live in
the North Pole, you are unlikely to have a pair of shorts. You find that you
can make your decisions quickly, and usually the outcome will be suitable for
the situation.
AMAZING OUTCOME TWO: You save money. You now only purchase
what you need. If you don’t need it, then you don’t buy it. You find yourself
slowly working through that pile of magazines or stacks of books, especially
when you know that you are not allowing yourself to buy a new one until all of
what you own already are read. When you do finish something, whether it be a
book or a holey jumper, you then have to get rid of it, recycle it or give it
to someone else to enjoy. Granted, there are somethings that you will want to
hold on to for sentimental purpose or even practical, but that book you
finished five years ago… yeah, let it go…
AMAZING OUTCOME THREE: You have space. You have less things.
You simplify your life. It’s a form of therapy. A clear desk in a clear mind. A
clear house is a thriving place for prosperity, creativeness and excitement. Having
fewer things results in a smaller amount of time spent tidying, cleaning or
looking for items you might need. It’s so easy! You have more comfort and more
time to spend on creative projects or enjoying life with friends or simply just
relaxing in a time for self-care. Hoarding has the opposite effect and only
adds to the stress. Minimalism = stress relief. The actual process of removing
things you no longer need is like a weight of your shoulders and you gain some
sort of control over your possessions, rather than them controlling you.
These are just a few of the most wonderful outcomes I have
experienced. I enjoy finishing that bottle of bath soak that someone gifted me
a couple of years ago, and I enjoy the space its removal created. I enjoy the
control over my environment and when I start to feel stressed, a good organise
of my possessions acts as therapy as somehow, the organisation of property
seems to organise my overactive mind simultaneously.
If you think minimalism may be for you, then watch out for
